You’re More in Control Than You Think
Success isn’t about talent or luck - it’s about belief, persistence, and action.
Hey guys,
If there’s one trait I’ve seen in the most successful people I know, it’s this:
They believe they can will things to happen.
They don’t wait. They don’t just plan. They move.
And that action — that relentlessness — is what creates results.
Some people talk. Others make things happen.
I believe in the power of will. In persistence. In taking action even when there’s no clear plan — because clarity comes from doing.
When I got the tight ends coach job at Arizona State, I was the youngest position coach in the country. And I didn’t just “get” that job — I willed it to happen.
That job wasn’t going to me. But I made it impossible to ignore me. I called every coach, every admin, every player I had a connection to and asked for support. I thought about it every second of every day while it was happening. I created momentum by sheer force.
There are so many things in my life that didn’t come from talent or connections — they came from persistence. From not taking no for an answer.
People underestimate the power of the human mind.
The most successful people I know also believe something else:
They’re in control.
If something works, they own it. If something fails, they own that too.
Not in a self-blaming way — but in an empowering way.
Because if it’s your fault you failed, it means it’s also in your power to fix it.
It means next time, you can make it happen. That belief system is everything.
So if you take anything from this email, let it be this:
You can will things to happen.
You’re in control… not the algorithm, not the market, not luck.
You.
